Get on your best togs and come out!
Listener SiHv suggested once that I put up the "Castle mail" on this blog (i.e., Castle-friendly event announcements)—well here's a hot one, and it's tonight. Two of the heavy electronics artists I've been playing a lot, both on the radio and at home, are blasting it out this eve in a 3-way collaboration --- Opponents and Family Treasures, on the same bill with our good friend Paul Haney, playing in his solo config as Rust Worship (member of Enerver and Towering Heroic Dudes, and my guest for a Noise Bliss-Out several weeks ago.) Also playing tonight, Ala Muerte (1/2 of Creeplings, who've been captivating my attention of late as well.)

hi guys, what'd i miss?
Apparently not that much, Don! Everyone always says "play more black metal, play more black metal!" --- and I did, but only because I WANTED TO, and the playlist goes *clunk* into the bin. I can only assume that you were all too floored by the hellfire to comment. Haha! Your punishment was a 16-min. Snuff track (which I also would have played regardless.)
In his closet, Takuya feels safe. Safe from the boys at school. Safe, in his germ mask, surrounded by the collection of bamboo, plastic and wooden beaters he uses quite liberally on Mom. It's a fucked-up world, but Takuya's closet also holds a secret portal that can take you to the playlist and audio archive of last night's horrorcast. (Enjoy the vast plains of music; next week I will be breaking up the crust with my co-host Sue P., asking for your donations to help keep WFMU's massive, unwieldy bulk lurching forward for another year. Not to worry; there will be plenty of swag to soften the blow of your tax-deductible donation(s.) And, for a nominal fee, you can adopt me!)
Starring The Future, Jabladav, the new Burzum album (thanks j!), Darvulia, Dodsferd, T.O.M.B. (again—new album kills!), Snuff, Opponents, and Excepter.

A Bag of Batteries
Thanks to everyone who came out for the Saint Death gig last night. Trans World and Sleng Teng did wonderful sets as well. Andy and I had a great time///and speaking of Andy, I'd like my collaborator Mr. Borsz to give his considerable titling talents to the full breadth of last night's 31-min. Saint Death set—but in the meantime...
Here's an excerpt—the final 7 mins.—which for these purposes I'll simply call "A Bag of Batteries" ---
Saint Death - A Bag of Batteries

Saint Death Is Here
You know you have it coming, and Saint Death does, too.
9:00 - Trans World
(Sara Cavic of Slasher Risk and Brian Osborne (Heat Retention Records))
9:45 - Saint Death
10:30 - Loose Limbs
11:15 - Sleng Teng
SD is the new collaboration between myself and Andy Borsz of the famed Slasher Risk (that's him above right; he keeps fit.) Me, I'm an old goat, and I need to dust off the cloak and get out more. I think it will be good, our first gig, that is. Andy's a strong improviser, and I'm chuffed that he asked.
And by the way it's TOMORROW NIGHT at Bar Matchless, 557 Manhattan Ave., in Brooklyn. Here's the lineup ---
(Sara Cavic of Slasher Risk and Brian Osborne (Heat Retention Records))
9:45 - Saint Death
10:30 - Loose Limbs
11:15 - Sleng Teng
Perhaps best of all, it's free, so more drinking $ for YOU.
Thanks to Brian Osborne.

Not German, Swedish.
Nah. Nah. NAH! Last night's Towering Heroic Dudes session was, well, let's just say it sounds like a record. It should be a record. Holy fucking shite it's good. Good like The Melancholy Mad Tenant, or some great Morphogenesis album—but better than that, too, just for being its own thing—comparisons being ultimately touch-points.
When Dr. Julian Karswell is your conduit to the dark forces, it's a wise idea to stay on his good side—which agreed, is almost impossible. It's very likely you WILL cross Karswell's figure of Crowleyan Hollywood reduction, and soon begin to see and feel the presence of something similar to the image above. Over the days it will grow closer, both in your mind as well as on the temporal plane, until you are forever submerged into the pit of your unsavory desires.
Click on the demon to access the playlist and audio archive of last night's horrorcast™, also starring Hive Mind, Enslaved by Owls, T.O.M.B., Sancta Poenas, Fragments, Hoor-Paar-Kraat, Time Life and Joe Spinell. SPINELL!!

i vote for brain damage!
FUCK JOBS. FUCK YOUR "PITY METER." FUCK SNOW, SLEET, SLUSH, AND "ICE CHIPS." FUCK BEING IN CHARGE. FUCK ANGELA FROM B&B (THAT ONE'S A HATE FUCK.)
FUCK FUCKING UP.
That's an awful lot of fucking, and it requires testosterone in reserve, and an unlimited cache of crusty black metal. Natchez, natch. Excepter didn't hurt none neither.
The Sword Saint, on the other hand, is NOT to be fucked with. (Plus, that's Anthony Wong Chau-Sang, so show some respect!) He will, however, take you with aplomb to the playlist and audio archive of last night's My Castle of Quiet horrorcast.
Starring Midnight, Octagon, Taylor Bow, Amadeus St. Vitus, did I say EXCEPTER (record release party)?, Family Treasures, Heath Moerland, Urthquake, Opponents, and Birds of Delay.

A Middle Finger from the Earth to the Heavens!
Due to the inclemency, or shall we say outright shittiness, of the local NY/NJ weather, tonight's My Castle of Quiet live session with Towering Heroic Dudes has been postponed. I've tentatively confirmed with the band for next Wednesday eve, 10/17, but keep your eyes on this space for updates.
Not to fear, Castle doors will still creak open at 8.
Putting tennis rackets on my feet now.

Here Come the Dudes
Towering Heroic Dudes perform live on the Castle, this Wednesday....
The Brooklyn-noise supergroup (yes, it's been said, now keep moving) create a triumphant, layered and complex din, descendant of early electroacoustic ensembles like AMM and Scratch Orchestra. (Think AMM's '66-'68 live sessions, through an American, pocket-tee filter.) No source seems to be off the table, as prerecorded signals are warped, an electric bass suggests resonant "follow me" tones, a turntable gets abused, an alto gets whipped out, and digital doo-dads, keyboards and guitar amps generally get the crap beaten out of them (and are occasionally coddled.) THD (as they are economically known) did not start out as a bunch of dudes, oh no, and their lineup has shifted over the years around the energetic constant of Neil Vendrick (Another Tombstone Dream, Random Tapes), who's currently flanked by Nathan Rulli (Laurel Craig, Enerver, head of Abandon Ship records) and Paul Haney (Rust Worship, Enerver, head of Obsolete Units records.) You can click here to view a dark, upside-down video I shot of a recent Dudes' live set on the My Castle of Quiet vimeo channel (the audio is sweet, though!) THD have CDrs out on Obsolete Units and Phase! Records, as well as a tape on Cryptic Carousel.

Headfloss.
Sometimes I feel just like Carrie White. They've all conspired against me, I'm covered in pig's blood, I'm the joke of the century, and they're all gonna pay. The difference between myself and miss White is that I'm not at the prom, and I am able to eventually take a step back from my initial strong reaction, and hop on the longboat to contrition city.
(I hope you can all deal with the seemingly agonized, protracted silences between the very short, noise and black metal-crust tunes, as they are designed to be like palate cleansers between free samples at the supermarket, and also because they're not going away. I've been doing this long enough, that my "skillz" are what they are, PLUS I'VE GOT A LOT ON MY MIND.)
Vulnavia has served Phibes the madman faithfully—she is very young and beautiful, and does not deserve the fate she is about receive—well, perhaps she does. In any case, she wears a smashing hat, carries a mean axe, and with a single click can take you the playlist and audio archive of last night's horrorcast™—get in before the acid bath hits.
Starring High On Fire, Esoteric, Mutiilation, T.O.M.B., Creeplings and Saints.

Album of the Day - Facialmess / The Madcap Barely Smiles (Spite tapes, 1997)
Time to share some music. Big thanks Anthony Saunders, Mr. apfEID, for drawing my attention to this little monster of a harsh-noise cassette, released in 1997.
Facialmess hurt. They get right-up-in-your-face annoying at times, like that kid in class who just refuses to shut up. A brat that needs beating on. And speaking of a beating—lay this over beats—and you could attach widgets all day while listening, until your eyes revealed the void, and your mind took leave forever. A delicious envelopment of merciless mind crunch. Serious shit, and I don't think it's ever been shared online before....
