Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

What have we learned? YOUR HOST, AND "PEOPLE," LIKE GARY NUMAN. More to come on that exciting revelation. ...

What else? New Drainolith [made even more exceptional by the contributions of Nate Young and Neil Hagerty; and two songs by a swell band I just saw for the first time, Ground from Southern NJ.

Our still this week comes from the unashamedly chessy-but-hits-all-the-right-notes Stitches, by director Conor McMahon, who's made some other promising features, like the peat-bog Nosferatu meditation From the Dark...but also seems yet to make his masterpiece.

C. Lavender is coming to kill you. You have about a day and a half to live.

You've heard Ms. C. Lavender sass me on the Castle program before, but that was all in good fun. Her sets tomorrow night, somewhat less so.

When she isn't lurching amps across the room with the Laundry Room Squelchers, or leaping into crowds off a Cock E.S.P. stage, or traveling great distances to play four-minute INC sets, C. Lavender is in her studio crafting the excellent tracks currently up at her myspace page.

Lavender, the multidisciplinary artist who formerly Paid you in Puke, now calls your marker with heightened brutality, all the more potent (in part due to that woman-energy stuff.)

Lavender has been an avid supporter of the My Castle of Quiet program from the very start, having initially put the word out online, and co-hosted the show with me twice in the past. She also contributed the chilling-yet-somehow-buoyant track "Rites of Winter" to the MCoQ 2010 WFMU Marathon premium CD. Now she returns to WFMU to ply her considerable sound-mashing talents. With her set-up always changing, and her sets varying in length and intensity depending upon the atmosphere of the performance space and the mood of the moment, I hope I don't have a big fuckin' mess to clean up. Haha.

I break open the doors with an impossibly huge graveyard cross @ 12 mid.

I'm pretty sure Lavender hates this set below, due to the unplanned radio interference, but I quite like the battle myself, and there's some wonderful sonic excitement (at about 3 min., the RFI goes down for the count.)

Ward of the State; Two Years on Welfare, on My Castle of Quiet this Thurs./Fri..

Two Years on Welfare's Glenn N. lists his artist location as Filthy, Pennsylvania...but in a reality where Two Years on Welfare dictates the landscape, the "filthy" is offset and reinterpreted considerably by hypnotic, pulsating, eerie psychedelia. Bringing to mind a more meditative take on the Broken Flag catalog, TYoW haunt and vibrate like Skullflower or Ramleh on a more contemplative, less destructive path.

The newer tracks on TYoW's page reveal an affinity for horizontal landscaping, in the form of 10-min. chunks of levitating chill and layers of ominous, cinematic provocation. Since the first, two-track demo cassette, and "Sleep," TYoW's ghostly, enveloping contribution to the 2010 My Castle of Quiet premium compilation, this project's visit to the Castle has been eagerly anticipated.

The Castle cacthes Two Years on Welfare at the start of a summer mini-tour, with shows in Brooklyn, Easthampton, New Brunswick, home-base Philly, Baltimore and Richmond.

World-weary caretaker sighs, and opens the big Castle doors @ 12 mid.

Me and PDD

I gotta say, being Professor Dum Dum's co-host/strait man was some funny fuckin' shit. Check out the audio archive of last night's show here.

We had no prizes, nothing to give away but the Professor's premium CD, fly-by-the-seat radio, some righteous metal, and this forward-propulsive maniac's quick mind and witty tongue, pulling my addled brain, the whole room (and hopefully a lot of listeners) ever forward. Talk about "without a net"! We actually made a few $ for FMU.

All Hail! The WFMU 2010 Marathon Begins!

The gloves are off, and the WFMU 2010 fundraiser has begun! Tune in TONIGHT @ 8 p.m. ET, when my co-host will be Sue P., our sludge/noise/hard rock queen of Thursday>Friday overnights. We'll be scouring the lands around the Castle on horseback, looking for your "donations" to the "kingdom," and, to show our gratitude to the multitudes over which this Castle governs, offering SWAG aplenty. CDs, tapes, books and movies. TG Gristleism box, anyone? How about a Bill Zebub DVD 2-pack? Not to mention my absolutely bloodletting premium CDr, featuring all-new, exclusive tracks by Liturgy, Enslaved by Owls, Grasshopper, Kevin Shields, Slasher Risk, Nuit Noire, C. Lavender, Telecult Powers, Kommissar Hjuler und Frau, Two Years on Welfare, Caldera Lakes, CM, Umberto, and Jabladav—with an arresting, creeped-out, original-art insert by Caroline Teagle.

A Castle banquet on the air! All will be rewarded!

hi guys, what'd i miss?

Apparently not that much, Don! Everyone always says "play more black metal, play more black metal!" --- and I did, but only because I WANTED TO, and the playlist goes *clunk* into the bin. I can only assume that you were all too floored by the hellfire to comment. Haha! Your punishment was a 16-min. Snuff track (which I also would have played regardless.)

In his closet, Takuya feels safe. Safe from the boys at school. Safe, in his germ mask, surrounded by the collection of bamboo, plastic and wooden beaters he uses quite liberally on Mom. It's a fucked-up world, but Takuya's closet also holds a secret portal that can take you to the playlist and audio archive of last night's horrorcast. (Enjoy the vast plains of music; next week I will be breaking up the crust with my co-host Sue P., asking for your donations to help keep WFMU's massive, unwieldy bulk lurching forward for another year. Not to worry; there will be plenty of swag to soften the blow of your tax-deductible donation(s.) And, for a nominal fee, you can adopt me!)

Starring The Future, Jabladav, the new Burzum album (thanks j!), Darvulia, Dodsferd, T.O.M.B. (again—new album kills!), Snuff, Opponents, and Excepter.

I Will Live Only Within the Fraction of a Second That Is This Moment - A My Castle of Quiet Companion

A Buddhist ideal, with attempted application to a lifetime of almost complete devotion to unnecessary obsession. I AM trying, though, and it's time to start dangling the bloodstained fishhook of my 2010 WFMU Marathon/fundraiser premium—mostly just because the contributions have been rolling in, and I'm putting the sequence together, listening, and getting excited.

Rather than create a premium from my personal archives (which many of my colleagues do, and it's a fine idea; we are, after all, tweaky collector types; in fact, I already have two premium ideas stowed for future years), I opted to pull together some artists that have been featured on, played live on, and/or just generally been embraced by the radio show (and in some cases vice versa.)

I Will Live Only Within the Fraction of a Second That Is This Moment - A My Castle of Quiet Companion, will feature exclusive tracks by Liturgy, Grasshopper, Enslaved by Owls, Jabladav, Telecult Powers, CM, Kevin Shields, Caldera Lakes, Slasher Risk (Ramones cover!), and Umberto, with more TBA. The image you see above is just my not-even-a-mock-up, using a found photo, created solely because I can't stand looking at a naked clef in iTunes. The REAL, FINAL, AWESOME, MUCH-BETTER-THAN-THIS sleeve insert artwork will be done by wonderful NY-based painter and gig-flyer artist extraordinaire Caroline Teagle.

The WFMU 2010 Marathon runs from March 1-14.
